Rongai route is the easiest climb with best success rates 80%.

The Rongai route see both sides of the mountain great scenery and a wilderness.

Rongai route climb is more expensive away from the crowds.

Using Rongai Route you will see wildlife on Kilimanjaro.

The Rongai route climb is gradual, rises very steadily, no steep climbs, ups and downs.

Rongai Route camps are amazing and the last day before the summit you have all afternoon to rest and acclimatise.

The Rongai route is a lot drier than the other side of mountain.

 

 

DAY 0- Free Airport Pickup

Arrive in Arusha, Tanzania FREE PICK UP!!

Our guide will pick you up at Kilimanjaro International Airport and take you to our office in Arusha. As local Tanzanians, our guides know well the country and Arusha city, so you’ll be in good hands from when you arrive to the moment you leave.

Day 1 – Nalemoru (1950 m) – First Cave Campsite (2650 m)

Marangu Route Gate

Walking distance: 6.5 km Time: 3-4 hours Altitude gain: 700 m

Today you will start Rongai route climb through cypress plantations and fairly open country. The scenery of the first day will be wildlife. Alot of Birds and colobus monkeys.

The open small forest ends and heather starts to dominate.

You will reach cave Campsite and rest for the day. It has a real sense of wilderness.

Simba Camp

Day 2; Simba Cave Campsite – Second Caves camp (3425 m)

Marangu Rain Forest

Walking distance: 6 km Walking time: 3-4 hours Altitude gain: 800 m

On this day the walk is steep through moorland covered in heather to the Second Cave Camp.
The Rongai route allows for good acclimatization.
The walk is not steep today with heathland and small rocky section with ups and downs.
You will have great views of Mawenzi, Kibo, eastern icefields, Amboseli Plains views in a distance.

Second Camp

Second camp is an open area where you will rest for today and have dinner and overnight at the camp. You will be provide with a tent accommodation.

Day 3; Second Cave camp – Kikelewa Caves (3600 m)

Walking distance: 3 km Time: 3-4 hours Altitude gain: 175 m.

On this day the walk is steep through moorland covered in heather to the kikelewa Caves Camp .

The walk is short and not steep today with heathland and small rocky section. You will have plenty of time to rest.

You will have great views of Mawenzi, Kibo, eastern icefields, Saddle Amboseli Plains views in a distance.

Kikelewa Cave Camp

Day 4; Kikelewa Caves – Mawenzi Tarn (4330 m)

Walking distance: 6 km Walking time: 3-4 hrs Altitude gain: 730 m

In the morning you wil see great views of kibo sunrise. The walk is in a gentle slope but soon it becomes steeper.

The view of the last vegetation will soon disappear.

Lunch will be at camp as it is a short day. After lunch have a rest and simple acclimatization walk to about 4500 m.

The Mawenzi Tarn Campsite very spectacular right underneath the pointed peak of Mawenzi in a hollow close to a tiny lake.

Mawenzi Tarn Campsite

Day 5 – Mawenzi Tarn – Kibo Huts (4700 m)

Marangu Rain Forest

Walking distance: 9 km Walking time: 4-5 hours Altitude gain: 370 m

Today you will head towards Kibo. Walking over a small ridge, and then a comfortable path on the side of “The Saddle“.

The view is breathtaking over that ridge.

The saddle is a plain desert of alpine between Mawenzi and Kibo peak. The only vegetation is hardy grasses and very few everlasting flower.

The landscape is open, windswept, big boulder and big clouds..

The last part to Kibo Huts is steeper and lack of oxygen, the air is thin. The best thing is that you will reach around lunch and have plenty of time to relax for the big day.

Kibo Hut

Day 4; Summit (5895 m)

Mt Kilimanjaro Summit

Walking distance: 5.5 km(up) + 15 km Time: 10hrs+

Wake up at 11.00 and 11.30 pm. Get ready with your gear and have break fast. Around midnight start the hike to the summit you will see strings of little lights for climbers ahead of you.

As steep as the slope is the path itself isn’t that bad. Take all the time you need.
There are two landmarks that are resting points only minutes. Then 1:30hrs after leaving the cave rocks appear on the path a bit slippery called Jamaican Rocks. Its another 1:30hrs to reach Uhuru Peak.

Descend for Lunch at Kibo Huts. You have no choice but to pack up your gear and keep going 3hrs to the Horombo Huts…

Horombo Huts

A group of wooden huts in a forest clearing. You will find a basic shelter and you will have dinner and overnight stay at Horombo Huts.

Day 5; Horombo Huts – Marangu Gate

Mt Kilimanjaro Marangu Rout

Walking distance: 20 km Time: 5 hrs

After beakfast you set continue descending down. The path is already known so its just getting down to the mweka gate.
At the gate you’ll have to clear more formalities, but eventually you will say good bye to your guides and you climb into the vehicle waiting for you and be carried away to your hotel for hot showers and cold beers.

After a hard treck of kilimanjaro drive back to Arusha you will spend the night at Arusha tourist inn hotel.
